Tanimura said on his YouTube channel today (21st), "I decided to retire after this season," adding, "Thanks to many leaders and fans, I was able to play basketball this long."
Tanimura, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament two years ago, said he decided to announce his retirement from the court after returning.
Tanimura, who was selected by Shinhan Bank as the No. 1 overall pick in the Asian quarter draft ahead of the 2024-2025 season, explained that he decided to take steps to retire as scheduled as he had achieved his wish to return to the court.
Tanimura, who is 185 centimeters tall, is a player who played for Japan in the FIBA Women's World Cup qualifiers in 2022.
Tanimura, a former German women's professional basketball player Aesfeugel SC Freiburg and also experienced European basketball, played in 24 regular league games this season wearing a Shinhan Bank uniform, averaging 12.5 points and 7.2 rebounds.
Shinhan Bank, where Tanimura played, won 11 wins and 18 losses, confirming its final ranking as fifth place, and did not receive tickets to the playoffs given to the top four teams.
